John M. Kaheny
The Grand Marshal for the Kensington Holiday at Home 2026 is The Kaheny Family. John Kaheny served as the Parade Director since the parade’s inception in 1983. For over 30 years John organized the logistical and creative aspects of the Kensington Holiday at Home Parade, acting as the central conductor for the event. This included managing the lineup, securing permits, coordinating the floats, and - on one occasion - directing tanks down Marlborough Drive. It was his experience as a Marine that aided him in the role of director where he utilized his military expertise to ensure a safe and timely event. But it was his love for his family and friends that inspired him to lead a parade where the community came together to kick off the unofficial beginning of summer. As a combat veteran, John knew the true meaning of Memorial Day, but he also knew it was a day of celebration for the many freedoms we enjoy. John’s leadership brought together young and old alike, to uphold the flag, march behind banners, dance, play music, walk dogs, wave to schoolchildren smiling proudly on their floats, and most of all to have fun with one’s fellow neighbors. John ran the parade with his whole heart, making sure his fellow neighbors felt right at home at the Holiday at Home Parade in Kensington.
